Promote collaborative and interdisciplinary reflection on topics that are at the frontier of knowledge, strengthening the country's scientific development. In short, this is the objective of the Institute for Advanced Studies (IdEA), opened this morning at Unicamp. With its own headquarters (where the Banco Itaú branch was, close to the Rectory), the Institute has already started operating. After a ceremony with authorities and the unveiling of the plaque, the Scientific and Cultural Council, chaired by professor Carlos Vogt - rector of Unicamp between 1990 and 1994, held its first meeting. IdEA's agenda of activities, coordinated by professor Alcir Pécora, from IEL (Institute of Language Studies), includes major events, publications, project formulation and research groups on various areas of knowledge. The Resident Artist and Resident Researcher programs are also back at Unicamp, starting next year. The first official event to be promoted by the organization is a seminar, whose theme is “Post-Truth and Fake News”, to be carried out together with the newspaper Folha de S. PaulO. The date is being set.
IdEA succeeds two other bodies that also had, among their respective responsibilities, the mission of reflecting on topics linked to the advancement of science and humanities: the Center for Advanced Studies (CEAv) and the Strategic Thinking Forum (Penses).
