Engineer Cristiano Rennó Amon assumes this Thursday (4) the global presidency of Qualcomm Incorporated, a holding company based in the United States and one of the leaders in technological solutions in telecommunications and chip manufacturing. Cristiano Amon was a student at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering (FEEC) at Unicamp between 1988 and 1992. After graduating as an electrical engineer, Cristiano worked at NEC do Brasil and Ericsson, joining Qualcomm in 1995.
In the early 2000s, Cristiano Amon was chief technology officer at the Brazilian telephone operator Vésper, a company controlled by Qualcomm and later sold to Embratel/Claro. He served in various operational and management roles at Qualcomm in the United States, developing and deploying CDMA mobile phone technology in several countries.
From now on, Cristiano Amon will formulate and generate strategies for Qualcomm's growth in its main areas of activity, as well as identifying new business opportunities. Until assuming the presidency of the group, Cristiano Amon served as executive vice-president of the chip division, being responsible for the company's growth through chip manufacturing in China and prospecting for new markets. He was also president of QCT, the subsidiary responsible for the semiconductor area, and a member of Qualcomm's executive committee.
Qualcomm, founded in 1985, manufactures chipsets for CDMA and W-CDMA technology cell phones and worked on the development of 3G and 4G technology standards. The company produces Snapdragon brand processors for smartphones from different manufacturers. It is headquartered in San Diego, USA, and operates in more than 40 countries. In Brazil, Qualcomm has offices in São Paulo and Brasília, and last year announced the project to install a new semiconductor factory in Campinas.
