A freshman Unicamp started this Monday (26th) with lots of music, joy and information about university life. The activities to welcome new students were coordinated by the Dean of Undergraduate Studies (PRG) and the Student Support Service (SAE) and are concentrated in the Basic Cycle 2 lobby, until Friday (2). “We tried to group all the actions carried out for the freshmen and women to build this reception in a more unified way”, said Daniella Gatti, PRG advisor and coordinator of the event.
While enjoying the sound of the veterans' bands, the new students were able to learn more about the Unicamp Library System (SBU), the Campus Experience Secretariat (SVC), the Campus City Hall, the Community Health Center (cecom), the Sustainable University Management Group (GGUS), Transurc, Confucius Institute, in addition to student organizations, such as Enactus.
“SAE prepared the reception for students by publicizing the services it offers linked to educational guidance and the area of social services”, said Helena Altmann, coordinator of the organization. In addition to guidance on studies, legal support, internship programs and scholarships, Helena highlighted the installation assistance that can be requested this week. As the coordinator explained, this scholarship provides a basic subsidy for the first expenses of students who encounter financial difficulties at the beginning of their degree. It starts immediately and lasts for one month.

Another important point of this year's freshman year was the work to raise awareness about human rights. As the event coordinator highlighted, all units received videos and information on the topic to be discussed with students. The initiative is part of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the University Pact for the Promotion of Respect for Diversity, the Culture of Peace and Human Rights, signed by Unicamp last year (Learn more).
Students will also be invited to reflect on environmental issues, such as water and energy consumption, in Citizenship Trot activities. Promoted by students from different courses at the University, this program seeks to integrate students by promoting sustainability, conscious consumption and citizenship. The events will include lectures, debates, visits to the SANASA Water Treatment Plant and planting of trees in Mata Santa Genebra.(Check the schedule)
