The classrooms for the nursing course at Unicamp were located, in the early days, in the space of the current Giovannetti restaurant, in the Cambuí neighborhood. The building was not in a good state of repair. And the undergraduate internships took place at Santa Casa de Misericórdia. This was the embryo of Unicamp and part of this history was recovered this Friday afternoon (2), during the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the creation of the University's nursing course. The well-attended ceremony took place in the auditorium of the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM), bringing together students, alumni, staff and teachers.
The rector of the University, Marcelo Knobel, highlighted the importance of this course for professional training and health care for the population. Also participating in the event were the general coordinator of the University, Teresa Dib Zambon Atvars; the dean of University Development, Marisa Beppu; and the dean of undergraduate studies, Eliana Amaral; as well as other authorities and guests.
Marcelo Knobel congratulated the organization of the event, which managed to bring together a large contingent of former students. He said that he accompanied, when Dean of Undergraduate Studies, the transfer of the eNursing course, which operated at FCM, to the Faculty of Nursing (FEnf), in 2012. “It is a joy to celebrate this anniversary and I hope to be here at the celebrations of next 40 years”, he said.
The director of FCM, Ivan Toro, thanked the nursing team who helped him in his work. “It was an honor to see the growth of nursing, its training, research, management and care for the population. Keep working and suggesting actions and changes to improve our Unified Health System (SUS)”, he highlighted.
The director of FEnf, Maria Isabel Pedreira de Freitas, attributed the evolution of the nursing course to undergraduate students and appealed to all former students not to distance themselves from the faculty. She took the opportunity to highlight FEnf's important partnership with Hospital de Clínicas (HC), Women's Hospital "Prof. JA Pinotti" - Caism, Hospital de Sumaré (HES) and Community Health Center (Cecom).
Erika Duran, president of the FEnf Graduation Committee, highlighted that nursing worked hard to train students and always defend the family. He said that nursing actions were always very resolute and that this is the way to train professionals at Unicamp. Renata Pietro, from the Regional Nursing Council, said that the Unicamp course is very important for the national context and that it has always had professionals working in the most different spheres, including ethics and intensive care.
FEnf professors Maria Helena Baena de Morais Lopes and José Luiz Tatagiba Lamas reported the history of the nursing course. Tatagiba recalled that he was a classmate of Maria Helena and that he arrived at Unicamp through Colégio Técnico (Cotuca). He said that he took anatomy classes at the Institute of Biology (IB), in a building close to the DGA (General Directorate of Administration), and that his first teacher of this subject was the doctor Luis Alberto Magna.
Maria Helena commented that what impressed her most about Unicamp was the casualness of the people she met on campus on the first day of class. She also revealed that she passed agricultural engineering, which she never studied, and that she only later decided to study nursing. She spoke of the enormous effort of the first teachers who taught several subjects at the same time to meet the curricular requirements. Learn more about the history of nursing course.
