Unicamp received this Friday (9) a visit from General Décio Luís Schons, commander of the Escola Superior de Guerra (ESG). The Brazilian Army officer was invited by the Public Policy Studies Center (Nepp) to give the lecture Postgraduate education at the Escola Superior Militar. General Schons was received by the general coordinator of Unicamp, professor Teresa Atvars.
With the presence of managers and researchers from Unicamp, General Schons presented an overview of military higher education in Brazil, emphasizing the work developed by ESG in postgraduate courses with lato sensu, stricto sensu and specialization courses. The lines of research developed by researchers from the Escola Superior de Guerra were also presented, with a view to the possibility of establishing future partnerships between the School and Unicamp.
General Schons highlighted the importance of ESG dialoguing with other higher education and research institutions. “All of us, both at the Higher School of War and Armed Forces, Unicamp and academia in general, have the national interest and the common good in common. These are convergent objectives that move us. We have to look for areas of possible partnerships to enhance, so that one institution can help the other to better fulfill their missions”.
Unicamp has already formed partnerships with the Armed Forces at different times, supporting product laboratories controlled by the 11th Light Infantry Brigade based in Campinas. Other areas of the university, such as health, physical education and pedagogy, have already carried out specific cooperation with the Escola de Cadetes, Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras and other military teaching units.
Another form of informal exchange remembered at the event are Unicamp students who join the Armed Forces after graduating, and active and reserve military personnel who enroll in postgraduate courses at the university.
“We believe that these initiatives can be enhanced and expanded through dialogue and the creation of lines of research that make this integration broader and more effective,” stated Roberta Rocha Borges, researcher at the Center for Public Policy Studies and organizer of the meeting.
The Escola Superior de Guerra was founded in 1949, in Rio de Janeiro. Currently linked to the Ministry of Defense, ESG is a policy and defense study center, focused on training and training civilian and military personnel. Candidates for the courses are selected after being nominated by public administration bodies and the Armed Forces.
ESG's Brasília campus recently began operating, where postgraduate courses are taught. The stricto sensu courses at the Escola Superior de Guerra are in the evaluation phase by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes).
