South Korean economist Ha-Joon Chang, professor at the University of Cambridge, presented this Tuesday afternoon (8) the first of two conferences he will give at Unicamp. The professor came to the University at the invitation of the Institute of Economics (IE), which is promoting a series of events to celebrate its 50 years of activities. Considered one of the most influential heterodox economists today, Chang attracted a large audience to the IE auditorium. Several people sat on the floor to follow the explanation.
In his first lecture, Chang spoke on the topic “Economics, but not as you know it”. One of the topics he covered was the different schools of economics. According to the economist, there is no right way to do economics, as each school has strengths and weaknesses. None of them, he said, is capable of giving all the answers to our questions.
This Wednesday, Chang will speak again to teachers and students at Unicamp, starting at 14:30 pm, also in the IE auditorium. The theme of the lecture will be “Bringing production back in - restructuring the development discourse”. The South Korean economist is the author of several books, some of them translated into Portuguese, such as “Kicking the ladder”, “23 Things They Didn't Tell Us About Capitalism” and “Economy: How to use it”.
