Representatives of the Central Administration and the Unicamp Workers' Union (STU) met this Monday morning (11) to discuss the items on the specific demand agenda formulated by the STU. The document consists of five points: readjustment of food assistance (30,7%) with the extension of the benefit to retirees and pensioners; granting of meal vouchers in the same value as USP (R$600); holding a public competition to expand the permanent staff of technical-administrative employees; career implementation for employees; and reduction in the value of chartered transport with a view to making it free. At the end of the meeting, a second meeting was scheduled for next Thursday (14), at 14pm, an opportunity in which the University will respond to the request for readjustment of food allowance, a topic highlighted by the Union itself as an absolute priority on the agenda. .
Participating in the meeting for Unicamp were the dean of University Development, Marisa Beppu; the chief of staff, Joaquim Murray Bustorff Silva; the deputy chief of staff, Shirlei Maria Recco Pimentel; and the coordinator of the Economics and Planning Advisory (Aeplan), Thiago Baldini da Silva. During the meeting, Central Administration representatives listened to the considerations of trade unionists, who expected immediate counterproposals.
Both Marisa Beppu and Joaquim Bustorff Silva explained that it would not be possible to present numbers in the first round of negotiations because all demands imply an increase in expenses for the institution, which is facing a series of budget crises. The directors considered that the Administration would need time to carefully analyze each item and their respective impacts on Unicamp's expenses.
Only the 30,7% adjustment in food allowance with the consequent extension of the benefit to retirees and pensioners, according to a preliminary calculation, would result in an increase of around R$95 million per year in the University's expenditure, which currently has a deficit budget of around R$239 million. The percentage claimed, according to union leaders, is equivalent to the losses accumulated by workers since 2014, based on the Cost of Living Index (ICV) calculated by the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese).
DIn light of the arguments of the representatives of the Central Administration, the members of the STU agreed to schedule a new meeting, in which Unicamp will present its position regarding the request for readjustment of food aid, considered by the unionists themselves as the most important item of the Schedule. The two parties agreed that they will continue negotiations on the other four points in subsequent rounds. “The discussions are being qualified and we are fully prepared to deal with the demands presented by the union with complete transparency”, stated Joaquim Bustorff Silva.
