Bunge Foundation Award announces 2018 themes

This year, the Bunge Foundation Award, created in 1955 to encourage innovation and the dissemination of knowledge, will honor professionals in the area of ​​Agricultural Sciences, with the theme “Environmental Services for Agribusiness”, and in the area of ​​Literature, with the theme “Children's Literature”. A Unicamp is among the group of institutions that will nominate names for the awards.

Nominations for each area will be made by the main Brazilian universities and scientific and cultural entities until June 30th. Next, Technical Committees made up of experts in each award area will evaluate and choose this year's award recipients. The recipients will be announced in August and the award ceremony for the 63rd edition of the Bunge Prize and the 39th edition of the Fundação Bunge Juventude Prize will take place in November.

The Fundação Bunge Award is awarded annually with the aim of recognizing professionals who contribute to the development of culture and science in Brazil, in addition to stimulating new talents. The award honors two professionals from each of the recognized areas of activity, totaling four recipients: two in the Life and Work category and two in Youth (researchers up to 35 years of age). 

Since its creation, almost 200 personalities have been awarded awards, including writers Jorge Amado and Ruth Rocha, architect Oscar Niemeyer, doctor and researcher Carlos Chagas Filho, agricultural engineer Eurípedes Malavolta and political scientist Fernando Abrucio. 

In 2017, in the Life and Work category, the award was given to agronomist from Minas Gerais Alysson Paolinelli and Cláudia Marques, a specialist in Consumer Rights, from Rio Grande do Sul. In the Youth category, São Paulo engineer Marcelo Loureiro and Ivar Hartmann, a specialist in Public Law, were selected.
