In a meeting this Thursday afternoon (14) with representatives of the Unicamp Workers' Union (STU) to address the specific demands of technical-administrative employees, the University's Central Administration proposed increasing the value of the food allowance by R$ 850,00 to R$950,00, which represents an adjustment of 11,7%. The granting of the index is conditional on the end of the employee strike. The proposal also needs to receive an opinion from the Budget and Heritage Commission (COP) and be approved by the University Council (Consu). According to union members, the proposal will be analyzed at a workers' meeting scheduled for next Monday.
According to rector Marcelo Knobel, the index offered represents a political decision on the part of the Central Administration. Technically, the director explained, the adjustment would not be recommended, given the current situation at Unicamp, which has a budget deficit of around R$239 million and the uncertainties in the country's political and economic scenario. If accepted by the categories and by Consu, the 11,7% adjustment on the value of the food allowance, added the dean, will represent an additional expense of around R$5,7 million in 2018 and R$11,4 million in 2019.
To arrive at the value presented, the Central Administration considered that the expected expenses with the meal allowance itself were lower this year compared to 2017, due to retirements. The reduction in expenditure on the benefit is R$5,4 million. “We are proposing to put this amount back into the system in 2018, which will allow an adjustment of R$100. The amount is possible considering the current budgetary and financial situation of the University”, noted the rector.
During the meeting, which took place in the Consu room, both Knobel and the general coordinator of Unicamp, Teresa Atvars, expressed the Central Administration's willingness to continue negotiating with the STU the other items on the specific agenda, such as the discussion of chartered transport and career implementation. Also participating in the meeting representing the Central Administration were the Vice-Rector of University Development, Marisa Beppu; the Chief of Staff, Joaquim Murray Bustorff Silva; and the coordinator of the Economics and Planning Advisory (Aeplan), Thiago Baldini da Silva.
