More than 300 teachers participated in a workshop to discuss the characteristics of the Unicamp Writing test
Last Saturday morning (16/6), the Unicamp Permanent Entrance Exam Committee (Comvest) received around 340 participants, including teachers from public and private education networks and undergraduate and postgraduate students, all linked to the area of language, in Unicamp Convention Center, in the District of Barão Geraldo, for the workshop “Writing in the Unicamp Vestibular”.
The event, which has as its flagship the discussion of the characteristics and genres covered in the Unicamp Entrance Exam writing test provides the external community with the possibility of closer contact with the correction criteria, thus enabling better possibilities for preparing students for the University's selection process.
An example of this is the concern of professor Tiago de Campos, from the city of São Paulo (SP), who took advantage of the opportunity to participate in the event, for the first time, to improve his teaching in the classroom. “We work hard to prepare students for entrance exams. In the public network, any incentive makes a difference. Therefore, having specific knowledge of a certain correction process provides greater support for working with students”, explains Tiago.
Also a first-time sailor, professor Gabriela Lauria, from the city of Itapira (SP), tried to contain her nervousness, alongside her husband, while waiting for the activities defined for the event to begin. Upon graduating from the literature course, in 2017, she began teaching English at ETEC in Itapira. Soon after, she accepted the challenge of also teaching a course for third-year students, specifically linked to the preparation of essay texts. “I saw the need to sign up for the course to be able to better instruct them on how to proceed, what to do or not do and how certain content is covered in the entrance exam”, points out Gabriela.
Professor Marta Silva Souza, from Francisco Morato (SP), participates in the workshop for the second time and highlights that “the themes covered in the essays, both for Enem and many other entrance exams, have been focused on social problems. Unicamp differentiates itself by exploring this through the approach of textual genres which, in my opinion, is a format that has little visibility within classrooms. It would even be interesting if other universities provided us with the same opportunity to come into contact with their elaboration mechanisms”, considers the professor.
Another veteran of the event, professor Vanessa Alves Pinto, from Campinas (SP), says that she has also worked as a corrector for Unicamp's writing tests and that “the event gives teachers a view of how the entrance exam is working, its criteria and formats. This provides a good perspective of the elements he must work with in the classroom”, highlights Vanessa.
The Executive coordinator of Comvest, José Alves de Freitas Neto, sought to highlight that Unicamp has sought, through its policies and strategies, a greater commitment to society and its representation in the facilities of its fields. This mobilization has been reflected in a series of changes in the ways of entering the University. “You, as disseminators of this information, also help answer students’ questions, along with Comvest’s publicity actions in relation to the selection processes. What is important to say is that Unicamp is creating several selection mechanisms. will be five major forms of tickets: the main one continues to be the Vestibular, with 80% of places (with the right to use the bonus from the Affirmative Action Program for Social Inclusion - PAAIS), ethnic and racial quotas, Enem, the Indigenous Vestibular and the Scientific Olympics. In addition to Higher Interdisciplinary Training Program (ProFIS)”, details the Executive Coordinator.
The Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Eliana Amaral, also took the opportunity to explain that the University promoted an internal discussion about Unicamp's main values, in which it was found that the most intense characteristic, recognized by the university community, concerns its social responsibility. “For this reason, it is part of Unicamp’s line of action to seek this rapprochement with high school teachers and managers, in addition to their students, as we intend for them to be our future students”, concludes Eliana Amaral.
University and social reflection
Social diversity and the plurality of textual genres have been subjects constantly addressed by Unicamp, whether through new forms of admission, carefully discussed and implemented at the University, or through the content required in its selection processes. As a reflection of these discussions, it is possible to highlight the mandatory reading list for the 2020 entrance exam which, among the new features, brings the requirement of the work “Surviving in hell”, from the Racionais Mc's group, which contributes to the aesthetic, cultural and pedagogical relevance attributed to the preparation of the list and considered, relevantly, necessary for the training of high school students.
