Representatives of the Central Administration, the Unicamp Workers' Union (STU) and health employees participated this Monday afternoon (18) in the second meeting to address issues related to the functioning of the University's health units, affected by the server strike. On the occasion, the Rectory's chief of staff, Joaquim Murray Bustorff Silva, and the deputy chief of staff, Shirlei Maria Recco Pimentel, responded to the questions and requests made by the workers.

One of the demands presented by the workers was the non-notation on the time card of justified full absence, with the consequent financial discount, of those who joined the strike. The justification is that the procedure would act as a method of embarrassing employees. Joaquim Bustorff Silva explained that the measure is an exclusively administrative act, without any political connotation. “We, as public managers, cannot fail to adopt this practice, under penalty of being accused of malfeasance. We have to follow what the legislation determines”, he clarified.

According to the chief of staff, the issue of discounts or compensation for days off will certainly be subject to negotiation at the end of the strike. Workers also reinforced their request to hire new employees and improve working conditions in the health sector. These points, informed Joaquim Bustorff Silva, will be discussed in detail in a new meeting, which will be attended by the University's general coordinator, Teresa Atvars.

The chief of staff added, however, that the Central Administration is attentive to the needs of the health sector, and has made efforts to meet its needs, despite the difficulties imposed by the budget deficit. He cited as an example the effort to replace the staff. “We have just authorized the hiring, via public competition, of 13 nurses and 15 nursing technicians for the Hospital de Clínicas and six nurses and three nursing technicians for Caism”, he said.

As determined by the judge of the 1st Public Finance Court of Campinas, Mauro Iuji Fukumoto, the STU must guarantee a minimum of 70% of workers working in the health sector during the strike, in order to guarantee care for the population, especially cases urgency and emergency. The measure refers exclusively to Unicamp employees, given that employees of the Unicamp Development Foundation (Funcamp) who work in the health sector are not on strike.

The judge imposed a fine of R$10 per day on the STU if the order was not complied with. Fukumoto also established a fine of R$5 per event, if the union promotes any type of demonstration that physically prevents entry and exit from buildings on the Barão Geraldo campus.
