The Rectory presented a new proposal to the Unicamp Workers' Union (STU) during a meeting to negotiate the specific agenda for the category that took place this Tuesday morning (10). In addition to maintaining the 1,5% salary adjustment offered by the Council of Rectors of State Universities of São Paulo (Cruesp), the increase in food assistance from R$850 to R$950 and the replacement of work accumulated during the strike, with the consequent issuance of a supplementary sheet to pay the amounts deducted from workers who joined the movement, the University offered an additional R$20 on the food allowance, to be paid from January 2019. With this, the benefit would rise to R$970 .

According to rector Marcelo Knobel, who participated in the meeting, the proposal will also be presented to the Unicamp Teachers' Association (Adunicamp). The director recalled that items that result in increased expenses for the University will have to be submitted for evaluation by the University Council (Consu), the institution's highest deliberative body. Knobel reminded union members, once again, that the set of proposals represents a great effort on the part of Unicamp, which is facing a serious financial crisis. The budget deficit forecast for 2018 is R$239 million.
Although it may seem small at first glance, the new adjustment of R$20 for food assistance represents an additional expense for the University of R$2.292.000,00 in 12 months. “Our expectation is that this additional proposal will be accepted by the workers, and that the strike will be ended. We have reached the limit of our possibilities. We have to be responsible for the financial balance of the institution and the maintenance of its activities”, considered Knobel. The STU informed that it will take the proposal to be discussed at the category assembly, which will be held this Wednesday, at 10 am.
