For the first time, the Unicamp Symphony Orchestra (OSU) will perform at the Campos do Jordão Winter Festival, the biggest classical music event in Brazil. The concert will be outdoors, next Saturday (28), starting at 16:30 pm, at Praça São Benedito, in the Capivari neighborhood. “We are very happy and excited about this opportunity. I think that our participation in the festival is a recognition of the quality of the work we have developed”, says the principal conductor and artistic co-director of OSU, Cinthia Alireti.
According to the conductor, the Symphony will bring a little of its identity to the festival audience, which is typical of an experimental orchestra. She points out that the presentation will not be exactly popular, but will have a repertoire that can be considered “lighter”. The related pieces are: “Ouro Preto-Mariana”, by Denise Garcia; “Symphony nº 40”, by WA Mozart; and “Suite Momentos em Bossa Nova”, by Rafael dos Santos.
Cinthia noted that one of OSU's missions is public training. “A really cool aspect of our work is precisely bringing classical music to different audiences and places. At each presentation we can see how much people, of all ages and backgrounds, appreciate this contact,” she reports. This Monday afternoon, the Unicamp website did a kind of immersion in the OSU rehearsal.
Tom's tones
In the video available below, the musicians play “Dindi”, which has a song by Tom Jobim and lyrics by Aloysio de Oliveira. Contrary to what many people think, Tom did not compose it inspired by a woman, but rather in homage to a place close to the city of Petrópolis in Rio de Janeiro. “He saw the river go by, rumbling against the rocks, the waters foaming. That noise appeased him. On the other bank, the pasture that he was going to open on Dirindi hill began. 'Dindi' was not, as many thought, a woman's name. But rather all that vast nature and its secrets”, narrates Helena Jobim, the maestro’s sister, in the book “Antônio Carlos Jobim, Um Homem Iluminado”.
According to conductor Cinthia, OSU's schedule for the second semester is quite intense. In addition to the presentations on the Unicamp campuses, there will also be concerts in cities in the Metropolitan Region of Campinas (RMC), the result of a partnership with the Agência Metropolitana de Campinas (Agemcamp). Furthermore, on the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th of September he will perform La Traviata, by Giuseppe Verdi, at the Municipal Theater of Paulínia. Entry will be free. “In October we will be performing at Sesc in Santos and, in December, we will close the activities with Beethoven’s 9th Tune”, he adds.
