They were not just the architectural elements, the branches, the leaves and the vibrant colors, of the new works of the artist Suely Pinotti, which attracted the attention of the public who attended the Casa do Lago Cultural Space at Unicamp on the morning of this Wednesday (15), to the artist's exhibition. A large number of people were there to celebrate the author of the works, who was one of the founders of the Institute of Arts (IA) at Unicamp and wife of mastologist José Aristodemo Pinotti (now deceased), rector of this University in the period 1982-1986 .
Present at the event, the dean of Unicamp Marcelo Knobel and the pro-rectors Fernando Hashimoto (from the Pro-Rector of Extension and Culture - Proec) and Eliana Amaral (from the Pro-Rector of Undergraduate Studies - PRG) visited the exhibition in order to embrace the artist, whose name is closely linked to the history of Unicamp and the Hospital da Mulher - Caism, created by Pinotti and a group of teachers in 1986. Also present were the artist Fúlvia Gonçalves, the director of the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM) Luiz Carlos Zeferino, the superintendent of Caism Luís Sarian, the associate director of Caism Julia Yoriko Shinzato, the president of Maternal and Child Research Center of Campinas (Cemicamp) Luis Bahamondes, as well as teachers, students, staff and guests.
Suely Pinotti took the opportunity to donate three paintings from her most recent collection, produced in the last two years, to Caism, Cemicamp and the Rectory. “The donations are a tribute to everyone who supported Pinotti’s work project, which also had an important role in the cultural area and the arts. We lived together for more than 50 years and ended up influencing each other, especially in university life: he was a doctor and I was an artist. We walk together and always share our dreams and goals”, she reveals.
When speaking particularly about the donation of the work to Caism, Suely comments that this initiative made her remember that the hospital was "the apple of Professor Pinotti's eye". “This was practically his first big project in medicine. It was a well-executed project because it had a wonderful, idealistic team that continued this initiative, which is increasingly important and has served as a model for other hospitals internationally. I have a deep gratitude for these friends and colleagues of my husband."
In the exhibition, the artist presents 24 works (one diptych, that is, two works in one), which can be seen by the public until September 4th. The paintings are made with acrylic paint and she says that the works also have light touches of oil. The screens come in different dimensions, ranging from 50x70 cm to 1,44x1,00 m.
According to Fúlvia Gonçalves, who was also an IA professor at Unicamp, "the Suely's compositions are endowed with strong creative expression and, the which is most admirable: this production never stopped and is strongly embedded in the artist's life. Her paintings always have new elements without, however, changing her style”, she highlights.
Fúlvia states that the architectural elements, along with the branches and leaves, come from the outside to the inside to find themselves on the canvas. According to her, although sometimes people don't notice this, in dialogue with the work, it turns out that these elements are unusual, unusual. Furthermore, they show a mature look that refers to Italian Renaissance works and which is projected in this work. "Suely has been my friend for many years and is a fighter. She worked in the Unicamp galleries and already had a gallery before coming here. Professor Pinotti has always been a supporter of the arts. With him, I created the panels on Caism's facade."
Even though she retired from Unicamp, Suely Pinotti reports that she continues to have the institution as a reference. She has already made other donations to the University, such as a work of art (a Madonna) for Caism, strategically installed in the hospital reception. Suely is still part of the Board of Cemicamp, which houses professors from the Department of Tocogynecology at FCM and which is located on the Barão Geraldo campus.
Suely Pinotti has a doctorate in arts from Unicamp, having already held dozens of solo and group exhibitions in Brazil and abroad. She is a specialist in Audiovisual Resources from USP. In the 1970s, He began his artistic work in Campinas, being part of the Convívio Team, led by the artist Bernardo Caro, one of the exponents in the area. In the same decade, she was director of visual arts at the Center for Sciences, Letters and Arts of Campinas (CCLA).
See the impact of Suely Pinotti's exhibition below:
“Professor Pinotti was a fundamental figure in the life of the University, and Suely maintains that connection. Bringing this exhibition to Unicamp is a milestone, as it involves a recognized and beloved artist. For us, it is an honor to receive these works so that we can advance in the field of art. I have known Professor Suely since I was a child, when I came to live in Brazil.”
Marcelo Knobel, rector of Unicamp
“I came to honor Suely Pinotti, as she has historical importance. She participated in the beginning of IA, which almost coincides with the beginning of the University. It's already 47 years. All cultural activity, even more so, must be encouraged here. I see as an artist (musician) that the community gains a lot from this, from having a cultural environment, as this greatly changes people's daily lives, with more sensitive contact. Not to mention the technical importance of the works, of being able to witness the work of a renowned artist who has recently made beautiful pieces.”
Fernando Hashimoto, vice-rector of Extension and Culture (Proec)
"Professor Pinotti is an icon for us, because he was responsible for materializing Caism, always thinking about women's health. Suely accompanied the creation of the hospital and her works have always been highly valued by us. It is very important that Let us have her image immortalized in works that will be part of our collection and that we enjoy very much."
Eliana Amaral, dean of Undergraduate Studies
“Caism is a relatively young hospital that, in its history, has opened up space for the incorporation of staff. This coexistence of the hospital with the arts makes the hospital environment more pleasant, beautiful and humanized. This is very good for patients and the people who work there. And Suely Pinotti is a great collaborator and is now donating another canvas to us, which is a source of great pride for everyone. The work will be part of Caism's heritage, as well as the memory of Professor Pinotti's achievements."
Luiz Carlos Zeferino, director of FCM
"The architectural aridity of Caism contrasts with some works of art that precisely give us a sense of our institutional identity. We have, for example, murals by Fúlvia Gonçalves that are on the facades of Caism. We have a work by Suely Pinotti herself in our hospital entrance hall. This bond we created, this affective construction of the hospital and even its conception are closely linked to artists like Suely and Fúlvia. Professor Pinotti was a great supporter of the arts, a polymath. So he had the capacity and intelligence for multiple knowledge. And one of them was the issue related to art. We owe a lot to the artists who built the identity of our institution with us.”
Luís Sarian, superintendent of the Women's Hospital - Caism
“Cemicamp was born with Aristodemo Pinotti. Suely Pinotti has also always been linked to us, and continues to this day. She is part of our Cemicamp board. For as long as I have known her, she has been one of the defenders of women's rights, just like Professor Pinotti. So having a painting of her, as well as having a work by Fúlvia Gonçalves in our collection, is very relevant for us who appreciate this art.”
Luis Bahamondes, CEO of Cemicamp
