Plagiarism, academic integrity, preservation and accessibility were some of the topics debated this week at the 1st Meeting of Scientific Editors at Unicamp (EneccampP). The event brought together professionals, researchers and students interested in methodologies and good practices for improving scientific journals, at the Central Library "Cesar Lattes" (BCCL).
“The meeting confirmed the completion of practically three years of existence of the Unicamp Scientific Periodicals Portal (PPEC), “said Gildenir Carolino Santos, responsible for the portal and organizer of the event. According to him, PPEC currently has 30 accredited journals, 11 of which already meet international quality criteria. The objective of the event was to provide editors with tools so that journals can strengthen themselves and achieve excellence.

To support this development, the pro-rector of research, Munir Skaf, announced during the event the notice of support for publications.is from Unicamp. According to Santos, the terms of the notice are being defined and its opening should take place later this year. “The notice is also a recognition of our work. The resources should be used for improvements in publications such as editorial, review and software acquisition,” he explained.
In addition to centralizing and making journals accessible, PPEC works to standardize and index publications through DOI (acronym in English for Digital Object Identifier) and ORCiD (acronym in English for Open Researcher and Contributor ID). Both are persistent links, which allow journals and authors to be found on the internet. According to Santos, the visibility provided by the use of these codes influences not only the impact of publications and the productivity levels of their authors, but also the university's position in international rankings.
