The General Coordination of the University (CGU) organized the first workshop “Elaboration of the Strategic Information Technology Plan” this Thursday afternoon, following the goal of achieving a “fully digital Unicamp” in 2020. “It’s our dream , which we designed in the institution’s Strategic Planning [Planes], says general coordinator Teresa Atvars. “We want to focus on developing systems so that we have all administrative processes computerized, automated and generating management data. Of course, 'digital Unicamp' also has an academic aspect (online, distance learning courses), but we are not dealing with that at the moment.”
According to professor Teresa Atvars, changes in the way IT is being used require strategic planning due to the size of the area, which is extremely important both for teaching, research and extension, as well as for management. “We need to make great progress in computerization, which is an expensive area that requires investment, and we are already making a large investment. Therefore, we need to have an action plan to prioritize projects and resources, monitor implementation and show results. The role of the CGU is to organize and integrate this implementation of new IT processes at the University.”

The general coordinator notes that there are many necessary changes, such as in the way of working to make it more efficient, promoting integration between bodies so that computerized processes that depend on more than one body can be developed more easily. “We need changes to have publicly available indicators: today this is sectorized, when the centralization of information would allow better management. And also so that we can build mechanisms to monitor what is being developed, where and for whom. These are profound, structuring changes, and planning is one of the stages in this process.”
According to Teresa Atvars, for the workshop held at Educorp (Unicamp's School of Corporate Education) representatives were called from central administration bodies (provise offices and general coordination), from all administration bodies that have IT teams (such as CCUEC, DGA and DGRH) and also users. “It's good to have a new system, but users need to be satisfied with it. Hence we invite them to help us in this first phase of reflection on planning, and then to monitor developments.”
