It began this Wednesday (17), the 26th edition of the Scientific Initiation Congress, which takes place annually at Unicamp. The event has 1.619 participants, including undergraduate and high school students, from the Institutional Scientific Initiation Scholarship Programs (Pibic and Pbic-EM), with 1.449 works registered, in the areas of Exact Science, Technology, Humanities, Biomedical Sciences and Arts. Participating in the opening ceremony of the Congress were the general coordinator of Unicamp, professor Teresa Atvars; the Municipal Secretary of Economic, Social and Tourism Development of Campinas, André von Zuben; the deans of Research and Postgraduate Studies at Unicamp, Munir Skaf and Nancy Lopes Garcia; and the advisor to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Mara Patrícia Mikahil.

The Congress is part of the National Science and Technology Week, coordinated by the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications, under the theme “Science to reduce inequalities”.

At the opening, professor Teresa Atvars highlighted Unicamp's care and concern with Scientific Initiation programs, which for many is the gateway to the world of research. “We are looking for the best way to carry out work, projects and grants, so that Unicamp’s Scientific Initiation continues to be as successful as history has shown”, stated Atvars.

Second André von Zuben, science and technology are in Campinas’ DNA. “We believe that it is through innovation that we will increasingly improve our city and provide better living conditions for the population”, he pointed out. For the secretary, “Congress is encouraging research and motivating young people to get involved with knowledge, which is fundamental to the development of our country”.

The opening table was followed by the lectures "Academic integrity - what it is and how to practice it", with Ana Paula Morales and Sabine Righetti, from the Advanced Studies Laboratory (Labjor), and "Inova Unicamp: learn about our initiatives in innovation and entrepreneurship", Newton Cesario Frateschi, from the Innovation Agency (Inova). A programming continues until Friday (19), with lectures and poster sessions.
