In the dispute for one of the 2.589 places in 69 undergraduate courses at Unicamp, 69.761 candidates took the first phase of the Unicamp 18 Entrance Exam this Sunday, November 2019. Overall abstention was lower than last year, falling from 9,02% to 8,6%. Of the 76.319 registered for the 2019 Entrance Examination, 6.558 candidates did not appear to take the exam. According to the Permanent Commission for Entrance Exams (Comvest), despite the test being administered in the middle of a long holiday, the presence of students was surprising. “Unicamp is honored with this presence of practically 70 thousand candidates appearing to take the first phase test”, stated José Alves de Freitas Neto, executive coordinator of Comvest.
For José Alves, the test reinforced the interdisciplinary characteristic of the Unicamp Entrance Examination questions, in addition to a very contextualized content, which according to him signals something important to students and society. “Several questions brought up important themes about diversity and the debate of ideas, the promotion of respect and democratic coexistence. In this way, Unicamp is signaling the appreciation of citizenship”, he reinforced.
As an example, the coordinator cited Portuguese and English language issues that addressed racism, migration processes and feminism. “The proof shows that Unicamp is committed to the production of knowledge and science, but it is also a gesture of dialogue with society as a whole, that is, with students, families, teachers, with basic education” , said Freitas Neto.
The first phase test consisted of 90 multiple-choice questions, distributed among the subjects of Portuguese Language and Portuguese Language Literatures, Mathematics, History, Geography (including Philosophy and Sociology), Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, in addition to 12 interdisciplinary issues.
Comvest's academic coordinator, Márcia Mendonça, reinforced that the questions seek to select students who are able, using the tools that high school offers, to mobilize the knowledge acquired, to reflect on the proposed themes. “We hope that candidates will be able to reach certain conclusions, in different areas of knowledge, through critical reading and interpretation of texts”. Márcia highlighted the importance of relating, in the test, scientific and literary production to the reality of young people. “This means proposing not only school knowledge, but topics of social relevance, to students who wish to become Unicamp students,” she said.
Unicamp administered the first phase test in 30 municipalities in the State of São Paulo and in the capitals Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Curitiba, Fortaleza and Salvador. The answers to the questions will be published next Thursday (22/11), on the Comvest website. The list of those approved in the first phase will be published on December 10th. The second phase will be held on the 13th, 14th and 15th of January 2019. The Specific Skills Tests for the Architecture and Urban Planning, Performing Arts, Visual Arts and Dance courses will be held between the 21st and 25th of January 2018, in Campinas.
