The former student of the Mechatronics course at the Technical College of Campinas (Cotuca), linked to Unicamp, Matheus Pacheco Guanabara Santiago, was awarded on December 15th with the Magna Cum Laude, for being the highest ranked undergraduate student among all graduates of the Class of 2018 at the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA). The award is awarded to those who obtain an average above 8,5 throughout the course, with half of the grades having to be above 9,5. In total, the institution graduated 131 students this year in six courses.
Matheus Santiago graduated as an aeronautical engineer from ITA and also graduated as a first lieutenant in the Air Force. The former Cotuca student said he was pleased with the institution's recognition for his excellent performance, but explained that he never worried about achieving this goal. “Since my time at Cotuca, I have always been encouraged by my family to seek the best performance, to do things well. I believe that the award is a consequence of this stance”, he considered.
Asked if the learning provided by Cotuca contributed to his performance at ITA, Matheus Santiago said that, in part, yes. “Mainly in areas related to exact sciences.” Currently on vacation, he revealed that as soon as he returns to the Air Force he intends to dedicate himself to flight tests, an activity that simulates the operation of weapons and devices on board planes, with the aim of verifying the safety and quality of these elements.
