Unicamp and Cardiff University will promote the international workshop “Environment and Development: Shared challenges of the 15st century for sustainability” from 19 to 2019 July 17. The event will be aimed at 17 young researchers from the United Kingdom and another XNUMX from universities in the State of São Paulo. The activities will take place on the premises of the Geosciences Institute (IG) at Unicamp. The initiative has the support of the British Council, the Newton Fund and the São Paulo State Research Support Foundation (Fapesp).
According to one of the workshop's academic coordinators, Professor Lindon Fonseca Matias, from the IG Geography Department, the event will take the format of an intensive research meeting, with the aim of stimulating new ideas, approaches and methods to understand the links between the environment and development. “We will discuss relevant issues around a general topic of global interest”, says the professor.
Over the five days of work, adds Matias, workshop participants will attend lectures and a keynote conference, and will participate in a field activity. The schedule is being defined. In addition, each young researcher will have 20 minutes to present, in English, their research related to the proposed central theme. “Our expectation is that the workshop will stimulate the emergence of cooperation and partnerships, so that we can establish an international research network”, says the IG professor.
Another expected result of the workshop is the publication of a book that brings together the most relevant points of discussions between young Brazilian and British researchers. Those interested in participating in the event can make a statement via email lindan@ige.unicamp.br, directly with Professor Matias, and iorisa@cardiff.ac.uk, with Professor Antonio Ioris, from the School of Geography and Planning at Cardiff University, another academic coordinator of the workshop. Travel and accommodation expenses for participants will be paid by the event organizers. The registration form is available on this link.
