Unicamp has just been admitted as the newest member of the United Nations Academic Impact (Unai), an initiative of the United Nations (UN) that brings together higher education institutions from around the world committed to promoting ten global principles, including the eradication of poverty, the protection of human rights, access to education, ensuring sustainability and conflict resolution. Currently, Unai has 1.300 members, distributed across 130 countries. Among its members are, for example, the University of Coimbra, University of Tokyo and the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
The statement about Unicamp's admission to Unai was sent this Wednesday (30) by the organization's management to rector Marcelo Knobel. “This is a group organized by the United Nations, committed to the millennium sustainability goals. It is an honor for Unicamp to participate in this select group. We will work tirelessly to help build a better future”, declared the leader.
Unai members are required to carry out at least one activity annually in support of one of the ten principles established by the organization. In addition, the associated institution must also present an annual report describing the actions developed. Since the creation of Unai in 2010, around 30 international networks of universities and higher education institutes have been formed. “The work of these institutions is vital to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, as they serve as incubators of new ideas, inventions and solutions to the many global challenges we face”, notes the organization on its website.
Unicamp's entry into Unai is, to a large extent, a recognition of the efforts that the University has made, especially in the last two years, in defending human rights, combating racism, promoting diversity and combating sexual violence committed against women.
