The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), agreed in 2015 by member countries of the United Nations (UN), aim to establish a global agenda to balance economic development and protection of the planet. Believing in the University's role in contributing to this agenda and seeking to engage freshmen and veterans in the topic, the Dean of Undergraduate Studies at (PRG) Unicamp organized the Freshman 2019 around the SDGs. “The freshman year, in addition to being an integration and welcoming event for these new entrants, is a moment of reflection and of giving students the opportunity to see the University as a place of commitment and responsibility”, stated Daniela Gatti, PRG advisor and coordinator general of Calourada.
The program, according to Gatti, will all be linked to the SDGs, with activities proposed by different areas of the University. “We believe that Calourada is an opportunity to integrate students into some of the actions that the University has already been producing within this theme”, he explained.
Calourada 2019 will be held on the 25th and 26th of February and will include activities in various spaces at the University (Check out the full schedule)
On the 25th, when new students must confirm their enrollment, there will be Freshman monitors in all units, to guide and guide students through the program. According to the coordinator, the activities will focus on the Basic Cycle, Central Library and gymnasium and will be, for the most part, developed by student groups (athletics, Enactus, etc.).
The official welcome ceremony will be on the 26th, at the Convention Center (CDC), and will be attended by the rector Marcelo Knobel and the pro-rector Eliana Amaral. Still at the CDC, debates will take place on human rights, the 17 SDGs and racism. According to Gatti, the program for that day, even though it is disseminated in the various Faculties and Institutes, aims to bring together all entrants, regardless of the course chosen. The Biology Institute (IB), for example, will develop activities on topics VJourney into Water and Terrestrial Life. A Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Unicamp (FEEC), in turn, will develop the theme “Energy Sustainability at Unicamp”. At the Faculty of Food Engineering (FEA), starting from the coffee cycle, the topic of waste reuse will be discussed, with a quiz about hunger and sustainability, and tasting coffee and cookies.
Casa do Lago will feature a Short Film Show during the two days of Calourada, covering topics such as gender equality, health and well-being and reducing inequalities. On the 26th, the program will end with the debate panel “Harassment or Sexual Violence: how do we face it?”, at 16 pm
Indigenous Reception
Those approved in the Unicamp 2019 Indigenous Entrance Exam will receive a special welcome on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of February. On the 20th, when they must confirm in-person enrollment at Unicamp, the dean Marcelo Knobel, the dean of Undergraduate Studies, Eliana Amaral; the Indigenous leader, Davi Guarani; and the visiting professor, Daniel Munduruku, will welcome you, in room CB01 of the Basic Cycle, at 9 am. The program will include conversation circles, campus tours and conversations with course coordinators. (Check out the programming)
