The rector of Unicamp Marcelo Knobel signed, this Friday (22), the Letter of Intent to establish the Center for Sustainable Development Goals for Latin America and the Caribbean. Product of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network initiative, led by University of Los Andes, from Colombia, the Center aims to consolidate an alliance that allows joint efforts that contribute to the fulfillment of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“The idea is to create an alliance in Latin America around the Sustainable Development Goals. This is precisely the theme of the HUB that we are creating here”, stated Knobel. “It is an initiative that has everything to do with our intentions”, he added. The virtual signing was carried out via videoconference chaired by the rector of the University of Los Andes, Pablo Navas Sanz de Santamaría. They also signed the agreement International Center for Tropical Agriculture, Pontifical Javeriana University and Northern University, from Colombia; O Tropical Agricultural Research and Teaching Center, from Costa Rica; The Pontifical Catholic University of Chile; to University of the Pacific, from Peru; O Monterrey Technological and Higher Studies Institute and Autonomous University of Mexico.
According to Marcelo Knobel, the objective is to exchange ideas and work together to make actions in this area more effective. “We will hold meetings, work groups and develop actions thinking about research, training, extension and entrepreneurship in terms of sustainability”, he pointed out. For the dean, it is an opportunity to exchange good practices and ideas around important objectives for Latin America.
