With just over a week of launch, the UPA 2019 It already has more than 15 thousand students enrolled. There are 230 schools from São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Distrito Federal and Tocantins, who confirmed their participation in the event. Unicamp Open Doors will take place on May 25th and registration must be done via event website.
The first school to sign up was Coopen Objective, in the city of Novo Horizonte, in the interior of São Paulo. According to the teacher in charge, Rosana Capelatto, her students really like Unicamp. “This year we have a very interested group, both in high school and in high school. They want to know the campus, the courses and have contact with what a university is,” explained Capelatto.
Another school that drew attention among the first to enroll was the Federal Institute of Tocantins in the city of Araguaína, which is almost 2 thousand kilometers away from Unicamp. Gerson Oliveira, the teacher responsible for bringing the class, says that for a few years he has been trying to bring his students to visit Unicamp. “The reality here is very different from large urban centers. It is a very needy region. Going to Unicamp would be very important for our students. See how a University works, what courses it offers, learn about other realities. They are very reclusive here,” said Oliveira. In addition to Unicamp, the group intends to visit the city of Campinas and enjoy some cultural activities in the capital of São Paulo. “I believe that this experience can help open students’ minds, so they can even dream,” he said.
Programming 2019
In addition to the presentation of the courses, this year's UPA will have specific sessions on the new forms of entry, coordinated by the Permanent Commission for Unicamp Entrance Exams (Comvest). In addition to the traditional entrance exam, Unicamp now has the Indigenous Entrance Exam and Olympic Vacancies, in several courses. In the Entrance Exam, some rules also changed with the adoption of ethnic-racial quotas, which reserved 25% of the total places for self-declared black and brown candidates. Students coming from the public education network also had their scores increased in the Affirmative Action and Social Inclusion Program (PAAIS). (Read more: UPA 2019 will be on May 25th)
