For the first time at Unicamp, a group of teachers and students from the university organized the “SuperCientista Girls” event, aimed at elementary school students. On four Saturdays in June, 50 girls from public and private schools will participate in workshops, lectures and practical activities in various areas of knowledge. Registration, which is free, begins on April 23rd, through event page on Facebook.
The proposal aims to encourage a scientific career, especially in exact and engineering areas, explains Anne Bronzi, professor at the Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Scientific Computing (IMECC) and one of the organizers of the event. “Female researchers from Unicamp will show what they do and models that can inspire participants to choose this professional path.” The activities take place in various spaces on the Barão Geraldo campus and at the Open Astronomy Museum, in Campinas.
The idea was inspired by "Girls with Science", “an initiative by women from the Department of Geology and Paleontology of the National Museum at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ)”, say the master's students in mathematics, Juliane Baiochi and Marcela Medicina. Participating in “Meninas SuperCientistas” are: Ana Zeri, National Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS); Carolina Zabini (Institute of Geosciences); Eliana Amaral (Faculty of Medical Sciences and current Dean of Undergraduate Studies at Unicamp), Esther Colombini (Institute of Computing), Gabriela Celani (Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Urbanism) and Jane Hetem (Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences - USP).
