Unicamp received, from the Environmental Company of the State of São Paulo (Cetesb), the Operating License (LO) for the units: Hospital de Clínicas (HC), Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM), Hospital da Mulher Prof. Dr. José Aristodemo Pinotti (Caism), Digestive System Diagnostic Center (Gastrocentro), Unicamp Hematology and Hemotherapy Center (Hemocentro), Community Health Center (Cecom) and Institute of Biology (IB). The license is granted when all the agency's requirements in relation to environmental standards are met. It means that the University fully complies with current legislation.
The work to obtain the document has been prioritized for at least five years, since the creation of the Sustainable University Management Group (GGUS). According to the group's executive coordinator at the time, Juliano Finelli, the units mobilized to make the necessary adjustments in relation to the requirements of the law. A preliminary license was immediately obtained, followed by an installation license and now, in April, an operating license, which is valid for three years. The document is also required by research funding agencies.

According to Finelli, Cetesb monitors each unit from the environmental impact of the installation to its risk and waste management program, among others. The former GGUS coordinator believes that Unicamp has matured throughout the process to obtain licenses. “It was a maturity in understanding the importance of the environment, not only from an institutional point of view, but also from processes related to external inspection bodies. Management understood the importance of fully adapting to the prerequisites on environmental issues.”
The executive director of the Executive Directorate for Integrated Planning (Depi), Marco Aurelio Pinheiro Lima, states that this licensing is part of a liability that needs to be reviewed on an ongoing basis. According to him, GGUS will continue to comply with legal requirements for the functioning of the University's bodies.
