The dental anatomy, which includes articulated skulls, jaws and macro teeth, caught the attention of UPA visitors who passed by the stand of the Faculty of Dentistry of Piracicaba (FOP), set up at the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM), this Saturday (25). They had the opportunity to learn a little more about oral pathology, especially oral cancer, which generally affects individuals over 50 years of age, smokers and alcohol drinkers.
Under the coordination of Professor Dagmar de Paula Queluz, 50 monitors interacted with students through clinical tables, containing information about the mouth, tooth decay, cavity preparations, periodontics, partial tooth replacement, among other topics. Through macro models at different stages of the evolution of periodontal disease, the relationship between the disease and dental biofilm and calculus was also presented,
The area of Microbiology and Immunology came with the proposal to show a little about the research carried out in the FOP laboratories. “We introduce the public to the microorganisms present in the oral cavity, such as Mutan Streptococci, which is one of the main microorganisms that causes caries”, said postgraduate student Eduardo Martinelli Franco.
