A giant, plural UPA that celebrates free, public universities. This was the impression of those who visited this Saturday morning, the 25th, among visitors from all over the country who took advantage of the event to get to know Unicamp, or even go back and see what they didn't have time to see in 2018. The cold day, a wonderful sky, it was not at all reminiscent of the rainy UPA 2018, with its umbrellas and crowded covered places. This time, it was possible to walk around freely and enjoy so much greenery, so much shade and lots of university life. See some of the testimonials from visitors about the importance of free public universities.
Acsa Mábile de Jesus Silva - Padre Arlindo Vieira School – Capão Bonito - SP
“The cultural values that Unicamp propagates are important. May people not be prejudiced, but respect freedom and gender diversity. In the country, people are too trapped to talk about it. It's wonderful that it's a public university, as many students can't afford it. It’s incredible to have the opportunity to come and study here and grow in life.”
Victor Gabriel - Padre Arlindo Vieira School – Capão Bonito - SP
“Here there is freedom of expression and thought. It feels like I’m in another place in Brazil.”
Samuel Lira de Barros – David Campista School – Poços de Caldas – MG
“We left early in the morning to be here. I intend to study physical education. A free, public university opens many doors for many young people. Brazil depends on the studies of these young people who really want to study. My family is quite humble and private college would be difficult to afford.”
Thiago Araújo – Tanabi Educational Foundation – Tanabi – SP
“I had already been to UPA once and hadn't had time to see much. It's a very good university, it would be a good choice. The public university is important because you work hard to pass and then it offers benefits such as housing, scholarships to support yourself, this helps a lot”.
Maria Luiza Ballerini Silveira, Portuguese Language teacher – David Campista School – Poços de Caldas - MG
“We came with 150 high school students and eight teachers. We left at four thirty in the morning. Everyone really wanted to get to know Unicamp. We talk a lot about public universities and, as a reference, Unicamp, due to the multitude of courses, the quality of teaching and the quality of the teachers. We also wanted them to have this vision of a university city with the visibility that Unicamp has. They needed to come and see it up close to broaden horizons. We believe in education for all and that everyone has opportunities to study and change their lives through study.”
Rita de Cássia Brendaglia Nakadaira English teacher – David Campista School – Poços de Caldas - MG
“Students will definitely return more motivated to study. They still have three two months to dedicate themselves before Enem, before the entrance exams. I think that coming to UPA will encourage the desire to create a public university and Unicamp is a great example for all of them”.
Ricardo da Silva – meteorology technician – Campinas - SP
“I came to bring my children who already knew about Unicamp because they participate in mathematics Olympiads. Nowadays education is very expensive, those of us who pay for private schools know this very well, it is not easy, and with each passing year, it becomes more and more difficult. If they get into Unicamp, which is a national reference, it will be very good. At their school, teaching is geared toward this.”
Vinícios Muniz – Colégio Anglo – Jacutinga – MG
“I had come to UPA last year. Unicamp is very big and last year we made a more superficial visit. I have a scholarship from a private school and the idea is to study hard so I can come back here next year on an engineering course.”
