This year, ONHB had the participation of 73 thousand registrants from all states, which corresponds to 18,5 thousand teams. Ceará has the highest number of finalists (90 teams); followed by Rio Grande do Norte (74 teams); São Paulo (37 teams); Pernambuco (36) and Bahia (27). Only the four northeastern states together account for 72% of the total number of participants in the final.
For ONHB coordinator, Cristina Meneguello, the in-person final allows students and teachers to have meaningful experiences and meet people from different parts of the country. “Everyone also has the opportunity to get to know an important university that is a reference, like Unicamp. This is the first time that many have left their cities and states and it is always an unforgettable and memorable moment.”
At the ceremony, 15 gold, 25 silver and 35 bronze medals will be distributed, according to the teams' scores. The other participants receive medals of honor for merit.
How the History Olympiad works
The National Olympiad in Brazilian History (ONHB) is a project carried out by the History Department at Unicamp. It consists of six phases of tests carried out online, lasting one week each. Multiple choice questions and task completion are answered by participants through debate, research in books, the internet and guidance from the teacher. The method, completely innovative, has as its main objective to encourage the development of critical analysis and discussions on the most varied subjects, through research and analysis of texts, images and maps. In this way, the ONHB consolidates itself as an important learning tool for teaching History. It is supported by CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development) and the Postgraduate Program in History at Unicamp.

Medalists will be able to compete for two places at Unicamp
Gold and silver medalists from the 11th History Olympiad will be able to compete for two places on the undergraduate History course at Unicamp. The opportunity was a decision by the University Council (Consu) in partnership with the coordination of ONHB and is part of the “Olympic Vacancies” notice, implemented in an unprecedented way in 2018 with the aim of expanding access to the university. The test to compete for a place at the university will be held during the Olympics final. On Saturday morning, the finalist teams will take the competition test as scheduled in the schedule and in the afternoon, those interested in competing for the place will take the “Additional Individual In-Person Test”.
