The university councils of USP, Unicamp and Unesp approved a motion to support the administrative and financial management autonomy of public state universities in São Paulo this Thursday (15), during an extraordinary meeting of the three institutions.
Three decades after the publication of the government decree that established university autonomy, in February 1989, the counselors met in the capital of São Paulo, on the USP campus in Cidade Universitária, to discuss the importance of autonomous management and the need to improve the system state university in São Paulo.
It was the first time in history that the three university councils participated in a joint meeting, which was attended by 195 councilors from the three institutions in the Auditorium of the International Diffusion Center (CDI) at USP. The motion was approved by a large majority of 192 votes in favor and 3 abstentions. Separately, USP recorded 77 votes in favor and 3 abstentions; Unesp had 59 votes in favor and Unicamp, 56.
Chaired by the rector of Unicamp, Marcelo Knobel – current president of the Council of Rectors of São Paulo State Universities (Cruesp) –, the extraordinary council was also attended by the rectors Vahan Agopyan (USP) and Sandro Valentini (Unesp).
Professors representing the councils of the three universities spoke, Floriano Peixoto de Azevedo Marques Neto (USP), João Frederico da Costa Azevedo Meyer (Unicamp) and José Alexandre de Jesus Perinotto (Unesp), in addition to professor Wagner Romão, president of the Association of Unicamp Teachers (Adunicamp), representing the Forum of Six.
After the meeting, the event “Financial Management Autonomy – 30 years” takes place in the same location, recalling the historical initiatives and mobilizations that culminated in this unprecedented model. The meeting program will also feature debates on the current scenario and reviews of academic and administrative achievements over the 30 years of its existence.
