The Conference Cycle “The Brazilian Crisis” is an initiative of the Rectory and the Institute of Advanced Studies (IdEA) at Unicamp to bring important names from different areas of knowledge to the University as a way of stimulating the discussion of current topics in search of diagnoses and solutions to the various crises that afflict the country's life. Every month, the event will feature a lecture by one or two experts, moderated by a journalist, who will address relevant topics with space for debate with the public.

At the opening of the cycle, on September 18, at 10 am, economist Luiz Gonzaga Belluzzo will speak about “The Economic Crisis” in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM). Graduated in Law from the University of São Paulo (USP), Belluzzo has a PhD in Sciences from Unicamp and a retired professor at the Unicamp Institute of Economics. In the 1980s, he was special secretary of the Ministry of Finance and state secretary of Science, Technology and Economic Development of São Paulo. Belluzzo is launching the book “A Escassez na Abundância Capitalista”, by Facamp and Editora Contracurrent, co-authored with economist Gabriel Galípolo.

In the second semester, the names of philosopher João Carlos Salles (“University”, on October 9), educator Mozart Neves Ramos (“Education”, on October 23), diplomat Rubens Ricupero (“International Relations”, on October 6) are confirmed. November) and indigenous leader and environmentalist Ailton Krenak (“The Indigenous Question”, on November 27). Registration for the Belluzzo conference is now open on IDEA website.

“The series of conferences on The Brazilian Crisis takes place at a time that requires a lot of reflection so that some form of action can be established aiming at predictability and mechanisms that can point out possible ways out of this crisis that is emerging”, stated the poet and linguist Carlos Vogt, president of the IdEA Scientific and Cultural Council.

“The idea is that we have the moderation of a journalist, initially Paulo Markun, and the presence of big names, thinkers, analysts and critics, to offer a portrait that then, drawn in a mosaic, will allow us to have a vision of this crucial moment in world history and, in particular, in Brazilian history”, explained Vogt, highlighting the proposal to offer pluralistic views on the issues in the cycle. Conferences on topics such as culture, health, violence, democracy and public security are already planned for 2020.
