The Inova Unicamp Innovation Agency announced yesterday, October 24th, that Lincoln Ando, CEO and co-founder of idwall, was chosen as Entrepreneur of the Year 2019, a recognition given to former student founders of Unicamp's daughter companies. The announcement was made during the 14th Unicamp Ventures Annual Meeting, when the three finalist entrepreneurs pitched the winning cases in the social impact, greater growth and innovation categories.
Ando was the winner in the innovation category and stood out with the case of the startup idwall, which helps other companies automate registration processes, preventing credential fraud in online purchasing processes. “Our automated Background Check, document reading and facial biometrics solutions allow companies to approve suitable customers more quickly and stay away from fraud risks, while still ensuring compliance with compliance and regulations in their sector”, he explained. On the same day, the company announced that it had received investment from the artificial intelligence fund of Qualcomm Ventures, the financial arm of one of the largest global manufacturers of smartphone processors, being the first Latin American company to receive investment from this group.
Graduated in Systems Analysis and Development from the Faculty of Technology of the State University of Campinas (FT Unicamp), Ando said during the Unicamp Ventures Meeting that this was his third attempt at entrepreneurship, and his experience in other markets helped him to better understand the problem that the startup solves in order to build a more solid company to scale quickly. Upon receiving the award, Ando also thanked him for the recognition and contributions to the formation of Unicamp. “I started developing projects since graduation, two of them, for example, didn't work out and this is my third attempt. For me, entrepreneurship is a process of trial and error, constant learning, in which Unicamp played a very important role in my journey with the support of professors related to the areas of entrepreneurship and project development, who also encouraged me to undertake.
