The University Council approved this Tuesday (26/11) the Innovation Policy of the State University of Campinas. The document aims to establish the principles and guidelines on the University's relationship with the business and public sectors, regarding the protection of Intellectual Property, the Transfer of Technologies developed at the University, the sharing of laboratories and equipment, among other matters.
According to Professor Newton Frateschi, executive director of the Inova Unicamp Innovation Agency and leader of the Working Group that prepared the document, the approval of the Innovation Policy is a big step and broadens the vision of the University's performance as a player important in socioeconomic development based on new knowledge-based businesses. “Until then, we had an Intellectual Property Policy, which, by its name, corroborated a restrictive view of Unicamp's participation in terms of its impact on the development of a socioeconomic ecosystem based on knowledge. The focus was on patenting the results of research projects. With the Innovation Policy, we not only update ourselves in relation to the Federal and State Legal Framework, but we also reinforce our stance as a university that acts proactively in promoting the creation of new technology-based companies and new businesses in already established companies”, he states. Frateschi.
Unicamp's Innovation Policy is a document that covers various topics related to innovation and entrepreneurship at the University. Frateschi points out that its approval gives more security to teachers and researchers who engage in innovation and entrepreneurship activities, ensuring that the University can also take ownership of the results of their work.
