Last Sunday, December 1st, the Permanent Commission for Unicamp Entrance Exams (Comvest) administered the test for the second edition of the University's Indigenous Entrance Exam. The exam was carried out in six cities across the country and reached the mark of 961 candidates present, triple the number of the previous year, when 354 students took the test. The exam was applied in the cities of Bauru (SP), Campinas (SP), Caruaru (PE), Dourados (MS), São Gabriel da Cachoeira (AM) and Tabatinga (AM) and the total abstention rate was practically the same as recorded last year: 42,6% compared to 42% in last year. Abstention rates by city are available in the table below. The test took place without any incidents in all locations. O test answer sheet will be released next Wednesday, 4/12, on the Comvest website: www.comvest.unicamp.br. first call for registration will be released on January 6, 2020.
This year, the lower abstention was registered precisely in the city with the highest number of participants in the 2020 Indigenous Entrance Exam: Tabatinga, in the State of Amazonas. The municipality was included for the first time this year, in place of Manaus and of the 837 registered, 523 showed up to take the test. The 37,5% rate was celebrated by the Entrance Exams Committee. “This shows that we were right when transferring the race from Manaus to Tabatinga, as we had realized that the greatest public demand was precisely in that region”, said the director of Comvest, José Alves de Freitas Neto.
In the other city in Amazonas where Comvest applies the test, São Gabriel da Cachoeira, which had been the place with the highest demand last year, of the 513 registered, 287 took the test, that is, a 44% abstention.

The test was in Portuguese, consisting of 50 multiple choice questions, distributed between Mathematics, Languages and codes, Natural Sciences, Human Sciences and an essay. The questions sought to approach the reality of indigenous students, with themes and debates on the linguistic diversity of indigenous groups, tourism in indigenous lands, the figure of Chico Mendes and the debate on the preservation of the Amazon Forest, among others.
José Alves highlighted the importance of the test for selecting students who contribute to the construction of a more plural university, especially at a time of threat to all this indigenous diversity. “We sought to carry out a test very close to the indigenous students’ understanding of the world, so that they would be able to take it and subsequently help in the construction of a more plural university from an epistemological point of view,” he highlighted.
Regarding the number of students who took the exam this year, the director of Comvest stated that “due to the large number of those present, we have the prospect of a good selection criterion in the Indigenous Entrance Exam”.
To pass, students need to get it right, No. minimum, 10 multiple choice questions and obtain, at a minimum, five points in the Writing test (out of a total of 25 points).
This year, Comvest offers 96 places in this type of entry. The most popular courses are: Nursing (398 enrolled), Pharmacy (165), Pedagogy (103), Nutrition (95), Administration (88), Physical Education (82), Biological Sciences (55), Public Administration (49), Evening Physical Education (47) and Electrical Engineering (46).
