The State University of Campinas (Unicamp) launches this Tuesday (11) a campaign to reinforce its character as an institution that belongs to society and that benefits, directly or indirectly, all Brazilians. The initiative includes the dissemination of inspiring testimonials from people whose lives were, in some way, transformed by the university.
The campaign, called "Our Unicamp", was designed voluntarily by Agência Sabiá, one of the university's 815 daughter companies. Initially, it presents videos with reports from eight characters (former students, professor and patient), in addition to written testimonials that are available on the website Nossa.unicamp.br. There is also an open space for anyone to leave their story, sharing their experience with the university. It is possible to share reports and publicize the campaign on social media with the hashtag “#nossaunicamp”.
“The campaign is a way of sharing stories of impact generated from contact with the University, a positive impact that extends throughout the country”, says the rector of Unicamp, Marcelo Knobel.
The first eight testimonies corroborate the rector's statement. The group is made up of Cristiano Amon, global president of Qualcomm; André Penha, co-founder and technology director of QuintoAndar; Hercules Gomes, award-winning composer and pianist; Kizzy Antualpa, former rhythmic gymnastics athlete and university professor; Renata Tonon, researcher at Embrapa; Leandro Karnal, historian and professor at Unicamp; César Gon, co-founder and CEO of CI&T; and Mariangela Maraccini, patient at the University Clinical Hospital.
Research shows positive evaluations of Unicamp
The idea of giving a voice to these and other people who have already maintained or still maintain some type of link with Unicamp arose as a result of the positive results of two opinion surveys commissioned by the University itself.
In the field research, conducted in November 2019 by the Axxus Institute – another daughter company of Unicamp – 1,1 people aged between 25 and 61 were interviewed in the cities of Campinas, Paulínia, Jaguariúna, Valinhos, Hortolândia, Sumaré and Indaiatuba, all of them in the interior of São Paulo.
The majority of respondents, 98%, rated the quality of teaching as “excellent” (81%) and “good” (17%). The research carried out by the University was also well evaluated and 93% classified the scientific work as “very important and relevant” and “excellent”.
The survey also shows that 91% of respondents consider the work carried out by the health sector as “very important”. When asked about Unicamp's image, 93% indicated the institution as “great” (72%) and “good” (21%).
In the second survey, 2,2 former students responded to an online questionnaire, sent by email between November 6, 2019 and January 16, 2020. Of this total, 94% said who would recommend Unicamp to a friend or family member. The evaluation was based on the University’s “quality of teaching”, cited by 88% of respondents; in the “value of your research” (60%); in the Unicamp “brand image” (41%); in the sociocultural events that take place at the institution (28%); and in the services provided in the health sector (19%).
"The numbers confirmed that the work carried out by Unicamp is recognized by society", stated the rector. "Much of what is done and produced at the University has a direct result in the daily lives of the population, and this is one of the central purposes of Unicamp, a public, free and quality university", he added.
The project was developed voluntarily by Unicamp's daughter companies: Agência Sabiá, Instituto Axxus and Sofist Intelligent Software Testing, in addition to Villea Marketing and Agência de Inovação Inova Unicamp. It also has media support from Band and Campinas.com.br.
