Mariana Zanatta, manager at Incamp: Intense schedule throughout the year with lectures and support for incubated companies

Unicamp's Technology-Based Business Incubator (Incamp) has an open call for entrepreneurs and startups who wish to receive support from the University through the incubation programs offered by Unicamp Innovation Agency.

Incamp's notice for 2020 foresees only two evaluation panels for proposals for 2020, and for the 1st semester panel only proposals received by March 16th will be evaluated, and it is possible to send them by post, email or in person at headquarters of the Unicamp Innovation Agency. Proposals received after this date will only be evaluated at the next panel on September 15th, therefore, those interested in incubating soon should send their proposal quickly.

To carry out the evaluation with the specialized panel, a registration fee of R$ 350,00 per registered proposal is charged. It should be noted that only proposals that have an idea, project or company with a technological or scientific base will be accepted.

Those selected in the Incamp notice will receive training in different areas offered by Inova Unicamp in partnership with Sebrae  and the Brazilian Federation of Consulting and Training Companies (Febraec)“Throughout the year, we have a very full agenda with lectures in partnership with Febraec on sales, marketing and management, in addition to monthly monitoring with Sebrae and the incubator's entrepreneurship team", details Mariana Zanatta, manager of the Unicamp and Incamp Scientific Park. Incubatees can also train in other partnerships and programs that Inova Unicamp develops during the incubation process and receive support in matters of intellectual property and technology transfer, as is the case with spin companies -of.

The incubation of companies with these capabilities is important in the entrepreneurial environment because, according to a 2013 study by National Sebrae, 24,4% of startups close after less than two years of existence, and in less than four years this percentage can reach 50% survival.

Finalists of the Unicamp and Inova Jovem Challenge

As Inova Unicamp promotes entrepreneurial education with its free training programs in business models, the Agency offers it as a benefit for finalist projects in competitions Unicamp Challenge e Innova Young exemption from registration fee to send the proposal in this Incamp notice. Interested teams must follow the same dates and methods of submission for evaluation by the panel.

Incubation modalities

According to the degree of maturity of the projects and businesses submitted, the evaluation panel will define whether the approved proposals fit into Incamp's pre-incubation or incubation program. This division is beneficial for the incubated person because it offers what is necessary for the current stage of the business.

The pre-incubation program lasts a maximum of six months with the aim of supporting entrepreneurs with embryonic projects that require technical and market evaluation to transform their technology-based business ideas into a new company. In other words, pre-incubation is a phase dedicated to entrepreneurs who require initial training, especially in business management.

The incubation program lasts a maximum of 36 months with the aim of helping startups develop more broadly, such as training in sales, marketing and management.

In both aspects of the programs, there is also the modality of companies residing in the Incamp building, which can use the co-working and office spaces, and non-resident companies, with a difference in the monthly fee in each modality. When registering, companies must indicate whether or not they wish to set up in the incubator building.
