This Wednesday (13), the Campinas Food Bank will receive the donation of the first 386 basic baskets collected by Unicamp Solidarity Campaign - Basic Food Baskets. The action will mark the beginning of donations that will be made by the campaign with the aim of expanding the capacity of the Food Bank and benefiting the 32 thousand families below the poverty line served by the Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance, People with Disabilities and Human Rights (SMASDH).
"We want tomorrow (13) to be a special moment, where we can show people that they need to help needy families in Campinas and also attract more partner companies that can support us", assesses Marco Aurélio Pinheiro Lima, executive director of Executive Board of Integrated Planning (DEPI) from Unicamp.
To date, the campaign has already raised R$38, which has already made it possible to purchase around 750 basic food baskets. Furthermore, Banco Itaú announced the donation of R$1,2 million, an amount that will be paid at the end of May and in three installments. Due to the worsening social situation of vulnerable families, caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the campaign organization chose to bring forward the start of donations as a way of sensitizing Campinas residents and businesspeople to also mobilize.
"Our first goal was to donate at least one basic food basket to each of the 32 thousand families. But seeing the pandemic situation, this need for families will last, at least, until the end of 2020. So we will maintain it until the end of the year and ask more people to support our action", comments Marco Aurélio.
Donations to the campaign must be made this site and payment can be made by bank transfer, bank slip or credit card. The funds will be raised via Funcamp, which will report the collections and the number of basic food baskets donated to the Food Bank on a periodic basis.
