More than 150 days have passed since the first press conference held at the Hospital de Clínicas da Unicamp, to present the Contingency Plan to combat COVID-19, and the hospital has recorded the greatest journalistic coverage since its inauguration, 35 years ago. . From January until now, there were 683 clipped news – 75% of them related to the new coronavirus – from communication vehicles (TVs, newspapers, radios and internet portals), in addition to social media.
HC sources were on the agenda of the main national and even international media outlets, such as CNN, the BBC, the agency Reuters and the newspaper Asahi Shimbum from Japan, detailing coping proposals, clarifications about the disease and hospital readjustment plans. HC's presence could be seen on the most important journalistic programs on open and subscription TV, with live entries.
CNN Brasil, for example, opened its first news story in its debut in the country on March 15, with a report on Unicamp's HC in the pandemic. To ensure agility for the newscasts, the hospital's press office produced seven interview videos recorded by smartphone with questions sent by the TVs, in addition to facilitating five interviews within the hospital by skype.
Multi-platform messaging WhatsApp it was the main tool for professional work routines used between advisors and producers, editors and reporters, including on weekends. During this 150-day period, 723 press requests were answered, 80% related to the pandemic and 20% to hospital routines such as medical bulletins. Requests from journalists via email totaled 48 aids during this period.
Another important issue is that since May, the images and photos of COVID environments such as ICUs, wards and Urgency and Emergency used in reports were produced, in high resolution, by the hospital's consultancy. There are more than 120 minutes of images related to COVID environments and more than 200 photos for the image bank.
“It was the only way to present to Brazil and the world the routine of our professionals, the daily use of PPE, the equipment and the existing structure, since journalistic teams are not entering hospitals, much less in COVID environments”, he explains Caius Lucilius, press officer.
To facilitate coverage of new coronavirus issues related to Unicamp's HC, five press conferences were held – for the first time outside the hospital. Also to strengthen communication with employees and the external community, the new website and the inclusion of the institution on social networks, under the care of public relations, Tricia Thomé.
The team of journalists Edimilson Montalti and Camila Delmondes, both from FCM, joined HC's communications team to produce content for the hospital's website since March. During this period, more than 80 articles have been produced for the hospital website, mainly related to donations and routines. Another unprecedented brand in the hospital's institutional communication.
In addition to traditional media, activities also included combating the spread of fake news on social networks like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Six official notes and an article published in the newspaper Correio Popular were also produced during the period.
