The desire to repay the education acquired at Unicamp and an opportunity to create an investment network that did not exist at the University was what motivated former students Christian de Paula, Daniel Andrade and Elisa Pereira to found the UniAngels, a network of angel investors alumni.
At the beginning of the year, in an informal conversation the trio noticed that when talking about Unicamp and company investments, there was a gap to be filled in encouraging angel investment, mainly from investors who are former students, for daughter startups, hence came the motivation for founding the network. “Our idea is to be a connecting actor, connecting startups to investors. We don't want to create something new but rather add the power of the network alumni, mainly from people who have the potential to be angel investors and startups that have the potential to receive investment”, explained Andrade, former Electrical Engineering student and entrepreneur at the startup Avicena.
The launch of the network took place during the Webinar “Investment Capture: Experiences and the investor's perspective”, by Unicamp Ventures, which featured several actors from the ecosystem such as Anjos do Brasil and FEA Angels.
Elisa, who is a former Mechanical Engineering student and works in a Venture Capital fund, commented that UniAngels is part of a growing movement of angel investment groups in public universities and that the fact that the connection is made through a related network Unicamp provides trust and credibility to peers.
Although the group encourages the participation of university alumni, it is also open to any person or company interested in doing business, who can register via the website: https://uniangels.com.br/ in the “be part” tab.
