The demand for the Unicamp Entrance Exam has increased compared to the last two years. Unicamp's Permanent Commission for Entrance Exams (Comvest) registered 77.653 applicants for the 2021 Entrance Exam, whose tests will be administered in January and February. At the Last year, the number of applicants was 72.859 and in the 2019 Entrance Exam, 76.327. Accompanied by the general growth of candidates, there was also an increase in several social indices. The groups of students benefiting from the registration fee exemption and the number of students from public schools grew. In both profiles, the percentage recorded was a historic record. In the case of public school students, the percentage reached 34,2%, a figure never before recorded. In the last edition of the Unicamp Entrance Exam, candidates from public schools represented 32,2% of the total applicants.
The number of exempt candidates rose four percentage points, from 10,1% in the 2020 Entrance Exam, to 14,1% this year, a mark also never reached. ANDn absolute numbers, the exemptions granted this year grew by 48%, going from 7.380 in the previous process to 10.925 in the 2021 Entrance Exam, the largest number of beneficiaries since the beginning of the Exemption Program in 2000. The other inclusion rates practically remained the same compared to last year. The percentage of self-declared black and brown candidates was 21% and the percentage of students who opted for ethnic-racial quotas it was 12% of the total applicants for the Unicamp 2021 Entrance Exam.
For the director of Comvest, José Alves de Freitas Neto, the increase in the number of enrollees and particularly the record number of public school students was a positive surprise. “We did a lot of work in dialogue with students and schools, on our social networks and dozens of lives to maintain student engagement, so that they understand that it would be worth signing up and seeking a place at a public university like Unicamp”, he stated.
José Alves highlighted that the characteristics of the tests for this edition of the entrance exam were emphasized in contacts with students. “We were careful to emphasize the adaptation of the tests in this edition of the entrance exam in relation to the school reality of 2020. And we consider that this action had positive results,” he said.
