The State University of Campinas (Unicamp) entered the list of universities with the best reputation in the world, according to the ranking Times Higher Education (THE) World Reputation 2020, released this Tuesday (3). Among Brazilian universities, there is also the University of São Paulo (USP), which was already mentioned in other editions. They are the only two Brazilian universities featured in the ranking, which is carried out through research with scientists and managers from various higher education institutions around the world.
“Unlike the rankings that reflect situations from five or six years ago, this ranking is a little more momentary and for the first time we are among the best in the world”, observes the dean of Unicamp, Marcelo Knobel.
He also salutes the university community responsible for achieving this position and highlights that the ranking shows the result of international actions by the University's administration, which end up being reflected in evaluations like this. “It is an achievement for Unicamp and it is interesting as yet another indication of the strength of our University not only in the country, but also in Latin America”, he states.
In the 2020 edition of THE World Reputation, a ranking that has existed since 2012, USP appears among the 100 universities with the best reputation in the world, while Unicamp is among the 200 best. Among Latin American universities, there are also the Autonomous University of Mexico and the University of Buenos Aires, both also among the 200 best. In the world, the most prestigious University is Harvard University, in the United States.
The questionnaires administered to teachers and directors of educational institutions were carried out between November 2019 and February 2020, in 132 countries. More than 11 thousand responses were collected for analysis.
