From December onwards, professors, resident doctors and students in the fifth and sixth years of the Medicine course at the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM) will start working at UPA Anchieta Metropolitana. The announcement of the agreement between Unicamp and the Mário Gatti Hospital Urgency and Emergency Network was made during the live broadcast of the mayor of Campinas, Jonas Donizette, on November 25th.

Donizette signed the sanction of the law that establishes the public and private preceptorship program in the municipality of Campinas. The measure will ensure that university professors work with preceptors, guiding students and resident doctors. It complements the Municipal Law 15.394/2107 which established the Preceptorship and Supervision Program in internship and internship activities carried out by higher education students in the health area, until then only for private institutions.

From now on, with the addition of the Law, public educational institutions become part of the Mário Gatti Network, which coordinates the teaching and internship field in the Emergency Care Units (UPA) of Campinas. “Now, with the entry of Unicamp, we will have 6 higher-level schools and 12 technical-level schools operating from Monday to Friday in various UPAs in Campinas”, explains Marcos Pimenta, coordinator of the Mario Gatti Network, which has more than 6 thousand academics.

The first areas of FCM that will operate within the UPA Anchieta Metropolitana are Pediatrics and Clinical Emergency. At the beginning of 2021, the participation of professors, resident doctors and students in the areas of Mental Health, Surgery and Orthopedics (Trauma) is also planned.

“The Health area at Unicamp – Hospital de Clínicas, Caism, Hemocentro, Gatrocentro – deals with serious cases and complex surgeries, but there are not enough fields to teach everything in Medicine. It is very important for Unicamp to expand the area of activity of its students and resident doctors. This partnership with the City of Campinas and Rede Mário Gatti will, without a doubt, bring a huge gain to our college”, said Luiz Carlos Zeferino, director of FCM who participated in the live at the City Hall of Campinas, representing the dean of Unicamp, Marcelo Knobel.

“With this partnership, the population benefits from care and future doctors benefit from their professional training. We thus have a robust and successful training mechanism for professionals to work in health”, commented the Secretary of Health of Campinas, Cármino de Souza

Watch Video of the live broadcast on November 25, 2020, which also included the participation of Guilherme de Menezes Succi, coordinator of the undergraduate Medicine course at São Leopoldo Mandic who is also part of the Preceptorship and Supervision Program of the Mário Gatti Network. Faculdade São Leopoldo Mandic will operate at UPAs Carlos Lourenço and Campo Grande.
