Unicamp is the newest member of Samsung Ocean, the company's innovation and technological training program. A physical space is now available at the university's innovation hub, with complete infrastructure for activities that, for the first time, will be carried out online due to social distancing. The courses, lectures and workshops offered will be integrated with the Universities of São Paulo (USP) and the State of Amazonas (UEA), in Manaus, which already have a partnership with the Samsung initiative.

Project coordinator, rector Marcelo Knobel: "[Ocean Unicamp] will certainly add more value to an ecosystem that is becoming stronger every day around our university"

The new Ocean unit is located in the Unicamp Scientific and Technological Park. The Samsung program offers technological training to the community and encourages the creation of technology-based companies (startups). With modern facilities, the program offers free technical training combined with topics related to usability and entrepreneurship, in addition to contact with company and market experts. More than 86 people have already gone through the program and around 3.700 training sessions, workshops and events have been held through the initiative.

“We are pleased to announce Ocean Unicamp as the project’s newest unit. Strategically, it will be a reference point to meet the demand of Campinas and the region, which have a strong vocation for technological innovations. The physical space of the program is prepared for face-to-face and online activities, with integration between units. The expansion is part of Samsung's strategy to continue fulfilling its mission of training professionals with an up-to-date look at the demands of the job market”, said Eduardo Conejo, Senior Innovation Manager in the Research and Development area at Samsung.

“It is a joy for Unicamp to be part of the group of universities that have an Ocean unit, an innovative model of opportunities in several technological areas. Ocean Unicamp will be close to our teaching and research units, and in contact with companies incubated and children of Unicamp, and will certainly add more value to an ecosystem that is becoming stronger every day around our university. We hope that Ocean's activities, integrated with other units, can bring many benefits to all innovation actors in the region”, highlights Dean Marcelo Knobel, Project's coordenador.
