The first day of tests for the first phase of the 2021 Unicamp Entrance Exam took place this Wednesday (6) in 37 cities across the country. Of the 34.024 candidates registered for the first day and competing for the Humanities/Arts and Exact/Technological Sciences careers, 5.286 did not appear for the exam, resulting in a partial abstention rate of 15,54%. The final abstention percentage will be calculated this Thursday (7), after the tests are administered to candidates for Biological Sciences/Health careers. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the tests for the first phase of Unicamp's 2021 Entrance Examination will be administered over two days and will have twice the number of rooms used, so that the distance and safety of candidates can be guaranteed.

For the safety of candidates, the first phase of the 2021 Entrance Exam was divided into two days and has more rooms

"Our balance was extremely satisfactory. The abstention rate was higher than in previous years, but lower than we expected, considering the context of the pandemic", assesses José Alves de Freitas Neto, director of Comvest. According to the director, the experience of this first day brings good expectations for the second day of tests, which will feature a greater number of candidates and rooms. "Our concerns are the same and combined, because tomorrow we will have 9 thousand more candidates. Most of them come from other states, looking for careers in the health sector", he explains.

This year, the first phase test is also smaller: the number of questions was reduced from 90 to 72, which allowed candidates to answer the exam in a maximum of four hours. Comvest's academic coordinator, Márcia Rodrigues Mendonça, details that the test maintained the characteristic of working with classic themes from students' training in dialogue with contemporary themes. "Despite the reduction in the number of questions, we sought a balance in the distribution of topics covered, so this made the test very close to the exams from previous years. We hope that candidates also felt this", comments Márcia.

The test sites had medical advice, but there were no records of incidents involving health reasons. All candidates needed to carry hand sanitizer and wear masks throughout the entire test. No incidents were also recorded due to candidates not complying with the security protocols established by the organization. "The candidate is looking for a place at a public university, which has a very competitive entrance exam, so he is a conscientious person. It was great to see this level of involvement from candidates who are interested in Unicamp, candidates who are complying with the protocols", emphasizes José Alves Neto.
