The work Telemedicina SAS Brasil and teleservice booth with automatic disinfection for needy communities during the new coronavirus pandemic was the winner in category Social Medicine, from Abril & Dasa Medical Innovation Award 2020. The work, from the NGO Saúde, Alegria e Sustentabilidade Brasil (SAS Brasil), is authored by Adriana Mallet Toueg, a student in the 41st class of Medicine at the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM) at Unicamp. The virtual award ceremony took place on December 9th. Look here the video with the winners.
“Adriana has participated in the Telehealth & Innovation group at Unicamp since the beginning, including helping to develop telemedicine in the outpatient clinics of the Hospital de Clínicas (HC) at Unicamp, with some projects already underway. It is very significant for the college to have a former student leading this initiative and being recognized for her work”, comments doctor Gustavo Pereira Fraga, responsible for the Trauma discipline at FCM and member of the Temedicine group at HC Unicamp.
“The work of SAS Brasil in the face of the pandemic emerged as the winner with the vote of the technical jury for having effectively and significantly combined an assistance, sensitive and technological approach in a country as unequal as ours,” he told the SAS Brazil Blog Diogo Sponchiato, editor-in-chief of See Health.
For Adriana, the recognition reflects the importance that telemedicine had in the pandemic. “It is an honor to win an award that attests to the importance of health innovation in the country during such a difficult period”, says the doctor. “We bring free medical care in a digital and innovative way to thousands of people. Our expectation is that telemedicine will become an ally of public health in Brazil beyond Covid-19”, she points out.
