Unicamp is carrying out a public health action this week aimed at app-based service deliverers. Professionals who visit CIS-Guanabara until January 15th, from 8:30 am to 18 pm, will be able to receive guidance on defensive driving and accident prevention, first aid, mental health care and the importance of good nutrition and consumption of water. They will also have tips on preventing coronavirus and how to work safely during the pandemic. For those interested, a thousand rapid tests for detecting antibodies produced against SARS-CoV-2, of the serological type, will be available to delivery people. The action runs until Friday (15) and services are free.
The work will be carried out by Unicamp health teams, which have the support of professionals from the Community Health Center (Cecom) and also from the Trauma League of the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM), in partnership with the Public Ministry of Labor (MPT) of the 15th Region. Silvia Santiago, professor at FCM and coordinator of the action, explains that the initiative arose following a series of projects that are already developed by the University in partnership with the MPT. According to her, the action would initially focus on preventing Covid-19 and testing delivery people.
However, the organization believes that broader work is needed, which provides guidance and also allows the identification of other public health demands that can receive support from the MPT and the University. "Their biggest fear is having an accident, having to stay away and not being able to earn their money. They would really like us to discuss safe and defensive driving and also first aid", explains Silvia. It also details the intention that this first public health action will help the University and the MPT to strengthen contact with professionals, in order to expand the support provided to them. "This is a start, we intend for this not to be a one-off, but rather for this to be the beginning of a relationship with this class of workers in order to support them as much as possible", she adds.
Coronavirus prevention and safer work
To assist professionals in the fight against coronavirus, a thousand rapid tests, of the serological type, will be made available to interested couriers. They will also receive guidance on how to make deliveries safely for themselves and customers, how to sanitize thermal bags and other equipment, as well as tips on how to approach customers who do not share the same care.
"Many say that customers arrive to receive orders without a mask, getting closer, without the care that they believe customers themselves should take. And this is a category that has been strategic for people to be able to maintain social distancing, in the world whole", explains the teacher. Silva also mentions other factors that affect the health of professionals and that can be investigated based on the contact initiated through this action, such as issues linked to adequate hydration and food safety for delivery drivers.
For Marcelo Rocco, sociologist and coordinator of CIS-Guanabara, the work that will be carried out at the site throughout the week confirms the space's vocation for strengthening ties between the University and the community. "For us at CIS-Guanabara, establishing this partnership is much more than a satisfaction, it is part of our mission. Given the inherent transversality of culture, we structure our activities guided by twenty major thematic axes of culture, thus justifying the residence and development of projects. In this way, every implementation responds to a pre-existing demand and, in this case, the action corresponds to the Health and World of Work axes", highlights Marcelo.
The initiative has the support of several University bodies, including the Secretariat for Campus Experience (SVC), which defined the guidelines and recommendations for organizing the physical space in accordance with biosafety protocols; the School of Corporate Education (Educorp), which made videos available with guidance on preventing Covid-19; and the University's security agents, who supported and guided the delivery people during the process.
