Unicamp's academic community must choose between three candidates to succeed the University's rector. The names of the professors vying for the position of rector were confirmed on the afternoon of Monday, February 1st, by the Consultation Organizing Committee. Applications will be approved next Friday, February 5th, in a virtual ceremony. The registration process took place on January 28th and 29th. Competing for the position, in order of registration, are professors Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles, from the Faculty of Food Engineering; Sérgio Luiz Monteiro Salles-Filho, from the Institute of Geosciences, and Mario Jose Abdalla Saad, from the Faculty of Medical Sciences.
“The three applications were approved, as they met all the requirements of Consu deliberation 27/2020 and will be approved in the presence of the candidates next Friday, February 5th, in a virtual meeting”, states the president of the Consultation Organizing Committee , professor Pascoal José Giglio Pagliuso.
During this period, as Pascoal explains, only candidates for rector are registered, who also had to submit management program proposals. The candidates, however, have already pre-launched their tickets, announcing the names of the candidates for the general coordination (vice-rectorate) of Unicamp. The candidate for general coordination in the pre-candidacy of Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles is professor Maria Luiza Moretti (Faculty of Medical Sciences); in the pre-candidacy of Sérgio Luiz Monteiro Salles-Filho is professor Eliana Martorano Amaral (Faculty of Medical Sciences) and in the pre-candidacy of Mario Abdalla Saad is professor Marco Aurélio Zezzi Arruda (Institute of Chemistry).

Consultation calendar
On the 10th and 11th of March, the academic community will be consulted to choose the new composition of Unicamp's rectory. If there is already a winner, the triple list will be composed at the University Council session on March 23rd. If there is a second round, it will be on March 24th and 25th and the session is scheduled for April 6th. The next rectory will take over management of the University for the period between 2021 and 2024.
