Freshman 2021 will begin on March 15th, with the aim of welcoming and providing guidance to the more than 3 thousand students entering Unicamp. The program will be held entirely virtually, due to the new coronavirus pandemic. In addition to being a moment of welcome and guidance, Calourada will also have thematic tables focused on current affairs.
The opening of the program takes place on March 15th, at 9 am, and is welcomed by the rector and general coordinator of Unicamp, Marcelo Knobel and Teresa Atvars; the dean of Undergraduate Studies, Eliana Amaral; the executive director of Human Rights, Néri Barros de Almeida and the Calourada coordinator, Daniela Gatti. The thematic tables will discuss topics such as student permanence; Covid-19 and the University’s role in combating the pandemic; human rights; climate change and global warming.
The educational counselors and social workers from the Student Support Service (SAE) will also hold conversations to answer questions regarding scholarships and the permanence program. In addition, there will be guidance on the use of the platforms used in classes, which remain virtual in the first half of 2021 due to the pandemic. Check out the video already produced for this purpose:
“Calourada is a very important institutional project because it is a moment in which the entire university mobilizes to welcome our students so that we can create a welcoming, peaceful and respectful reception. In 2021, due to the pandemic, we will hold a virtual freshman year, but it will not be any less warm and welcoming”, points out the advisor to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies and coordinator of the Freshman, Daniela Gatti. In addition to academic bodies, such as the Student Support Service (SAE) and Academic Board (DAC), secretariats and course coordinators are also involved in welcoming new entrants.
The programming, says Daniela, is aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development goals of the United Nations (UN), with a commitment to valuing principles such as sustainability, quality education and human rights. “These are values that we would like to show to students upon arrival so that the student understands their role as a transformative agent, aware of their actions that will directly affect the lives of other people and the planet as a whole”, she explains.
The welcome and themed tables will be broadcast via PRG channel on Youtube, the conversation with SAE will be via Google Meet.

Mentoring Program
To assist in welcoming new entrants, helping with adaptation and integration, the University also created the Unicamp mentoring. Created in 2020, the program takes place entirely virtually in 2021. Through mentoring, veteran students become mentors for newcomers and tutor teachers accompany the adaptation process. With this collaborative network between the academic community, Mentoring helps in the process of resolving doubts and also contributes to creating links with the University.
