The State University of Campinas is publicly speaking out vigorously against the cancellation of the 2021 Demographic Census.
Reason for restrictions and disqualifications by the Ministry of Economy since 2019, the Demographic Census initially scheduled for 2020 and postponed due to the Pandemic to this year, has now finally been canceled due to lack of forecast in the federal budget.
This imprudent measure will prevent the Brazilian population from being properly aware of its social, economic and demographic characteristics, its spatial distribution and the conditions of its cities, essential aspects for the formulation of appropriate public policies for a country that sees its development conditions as seriously compromised by the current health crisis and the economic crisis.
The University is a source of knowledge and subsidies for government policies, and it cannot remain silent in the face of this threat that calls into question the search for a more just and equitable society.
