According to National Health Survey of the year 2019 published by IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), seven out of ten Brazilians depend exclusively on the public health system. These data indicate that more than 150 million people do not have access to private health plans. And it is in this scenario that the startup IZA, present in the Annex building of the Unicamp Scientific and Technological Park, managed by Unicamp Innovation Agency, launches its online life insurance platform. “We work to support, mainly, liberal workers, those who cannot afford a health plan and do not want to depend solely on public health services", says Gabriel de Ségur, CEO and founder of IZA.
The startup specializes in insurance for medical, hospital and dental expenses, life and funeral insurance. The insurance is 100% digital and aimed at any Brazilian, focusing on those who depend on their work to survive, in a situation of dependence on public health services, making it a more viable option for social inclusion.
IZA has been working on its insurance system for 2,5 years and has been approved by the Private Insurance Superintendence (Susep) in March this year, allowing the startup to operate with lower regulatory costs and have more innovation flexibility. The IZA insurance company is completely digital and can be activated from any mobile device.
How insurance works
To buy IZA insurance, simply download the app for cell phones, fill out the form with the insured person’s data and finish. The insurance comes into force on the day following purchase, with no waiting period. The amount paid is 29,90 reais per month, receiving a credit of 30 thousand reais to be used in any urgent and emergency event and, in the event of the applicant passing away, the credit goes to the beneficiary indicated by him.
The insured can activate the service from the moment of the incident until the final care. “Our insurance covers any urgency and emergency that the beneficiary needs. We even cover the Uber costs to take our client to the hospital”, explains Ségur.
IZA's insurance proposal differs from conventional insurance, which is more bureaucratic and less accessible to the target audience. Compared to a private health plan, IZA is a cheaper service, but it has a credit limit for the beneficiary.
